The world's wildest drag racing vehicle was the title assigned to the revolutionary twin-engined, supercharged, Oldsmobile powered, four-wheel drive Hurst "Hairy" Olds. Basically a rolling research laboratory designed, engineered and constructed by Hurst Performance Products in Detroit, the car was based on a 1967 model Oldsmobile 4-4-2 body. However, any resemblance to the production model ended abruptly there.
The Hurst "Hairy" Olds was powered by two 425 cubic inch Oldsmobile engines, that were specially outfitted with fuel injection systems and modified 6:71 GMC superchargers. Creating over 1,000 horsepower, two Tornado transmissions and drive trains were required to supply power to both the front and rear wheels, held together by a specially designed tubular frame. Weight-saving aluminum replaced the original hood, rear deck, bumpers and many other body components. Quarter mile times in the nine-second range were the result.
This 1/18 scale replica from Highway 61 Collectibles is the next in a series of releases designed to live up to the high standards of the designers and manufacturers of the original cars. From the quality of the finish and decoration, to the many precision-crafted working features, this model is destined to become a cherished addition to your collection.
